The crew members of a Russian cargo ship that docked in Busan on June 19 have tested positive for COVID-19. On June 22, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported that 16 out of 21 crew members tested positive for COVID-19, including the ship’s captain. An estimated 160 people who work at or near Busan Port came into contact with the infected crew members. The KCDC added that port authorities in Busan did not take the proper precautionary measures to prevent infected persons from entering the country, and issued quarantine certificates without even screening them or giving them health questionnaires. The crew members currently remain quarantined on the ship.
