President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to give a speech to a joint session of the US Congress on April 27 as part of his state visit to the US. This marks the first time in 10 years that a South Korean president will address the US Congress since former president Park Geun-hye in 2013.
Yoon received the official request to address the US Congress from nine members of the US House of Representatives who visited the presidential office in Yongsan on Wednesday, including US House Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Michael McCaul and Senator Jon Ossoff.
Presidential office spokesperson Lee Do-woon said Yoon accepted the request, saying Yoon is “delighted to give a historic address from the podium at the US Capitol on the special occasion of the 70th anniversary of the South Korea-US alliance.”
Bloomberg also reported that Yoon’s speech before Congress is set to take place on April 27.
On April 26, the day before the speech, Yoon will hold a bilateral summit and have a state dinner with US President Joe Biden.
